9 Celebrity BFF Duos Who Used To Be EVERYWHERE, And Then Suddenly Stopped Being Seen Together

I don't know if your algorithm looks the same as mine, but there's currently a trend on my X feed where people are posting pictures of their favorite former BFF celeb duos with the caption: "We used to get our periods at the same time."
If you're confused, the caption is a reference to the popular belief that women who spend a lot of time together can find that their menstrual cycles begin to synchronize. It's not proven by science, and you can read more about it here, but that's not what we're here to talk about today...
The point of this story is that there are SOOO many forgotten celebrity duos who aren't really seen together anymore. Did they fall out? Move apart? Or some secret third thing? Whatever the case, I'm dying to know the tea. So, here's a roundup of some of the best examples I've seen — and a little investigation into what may have happened between them.
Kim and Chyna were seen together frequently from 2013 to 2014. Chyna even appeared in some old episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. True friendship.
But as we all know, the bond between these two began to crumble around 2014 when Kylie Jenner was linked with Chyna's ex, Tyga, with whom she had split earlier that year. Things then got even more confusing in early 2016 when Chyna began dating Kim and Kylie's brother, Rob Kardashian. They subsequently got engaged and welcomed a daughter, Dream; however, that relationship ended very messily, and Chyna wound up suing the Kardashian family for defamation years later. Chyna lost the legal battle in 2022, and now, as she and Rob co-parent Dream, it seems Chyna and the KarJenners are on pretty cordial terms — although I'm not sure we'll ever get back to the OG days of Kim and Chyna hangouts.
These two go back a long way. Their working relationship began in the early 2000s when Jay signed Kanye to Roc-A-Fella Records. For many years, Kanye was a ride-or-die for Jay — and Beyoncé, for that matter. Who could forget the 2009 VMAs? In 2011, they released their joint album, Watch the Throne, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and produced beloved tracks like "Otis" and "No Church in the Wild." They followed up with a Watch the Throne tour, which ended in 2012, and that's when things began to go downhill...
Jay apparently grew "fed up" with Kanye's antics and spending, and in 2014, he and Beyoncé were notably absent from Kanye's wedding to Kim Kardashian. They briefly seemed to sort things out a year later when Kanye supported Jay-Z’s TIDAL venture, but it wasn't long before Ye was calling him out again. Since then, the two have been up and down a lot. Jay-Z did feature on Kanye's 2021 Donda album, although in 2025, Kanye made some horrendous comments about Jay and Bey's children online, and I truly don't think there is any coming back from that. (And that's not even mentioning the rest of Kanye's controversies in the past few years...)
3.Speaking of Beyoncé, there's a lot of chatter about her old friendship with Gwyneth Paltrow.
While some have described their friendship as "confusing," this bond made perfect sense to me. Gwyneth said that she and Beyoncé met and immediately bonded at a charity event in 2006. They soon became a close foursome with their respective husbands, Chris Martin and Jay-Z. Bey and Gwyneth were constantly seen together throughout the mid-2000s, and below is one of my favorite pictures of Jay-Z and Gwyneth in the crowd watching Bey headline Glastonbury in 2011.
When Chris and Gwyneth "consciously uncoupled" in 2014, the friendship between Beyoncé and Gwyneth initially seemed unaffected. People have been remembering that the Goop founder memorably babysat then-4-year-old Blue Ivy during the 2016 Super Bowl, while Beyoncé made a surprise appearance during Coldplay's halftime show performance. Since then, Bey and Jay have remained close with Chris, although it seems like she and Gwyneth don't hang out quite as much as they used to. Loads of people on X are joking that "Chris got Beyoncé in the divorce," and I'd honestly love someone to ask them about it. Please.
4.From one icon to another, people are also digging up some of Rihanna's past friendships. First on the list, Rih and Cara Delevingne.
When Cara was coming up as a model in the early 2010s, she was seen spending a lot of time with Rihanna. The pair partied and traveled together, and a source later told E! News that Cara "found it hard to cope with fame and Rihanna has taken her under her wing."
They remained close for a number of years, and in 2017, they even starred in a movie together, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Though they aren't spotted together as much anymore, I don't think there's any bad blood between these two. In 2019, they hung out at Rihanna's Savage X Fenty fashion show, and, since then, Cara has attended Fenty Beauty events, too.
5.Next, we've gotta talk about Rihanna and Katy Perry, one of the most iconic celebrity friendships of the mid-2010s.
Rihanna and Katy bonded over a Valentino purse on a red carpet in 2009, and from that point on, these two were pretty inseparable. They often sat together at awards shows, and in 2012, Rihanna was said to have supported Katy through her divorce from Russell Brand.
Around 2018, it was rumored that Rihanna and Katy had some kind of falling-out, and since then, they've not been seen together nearly as much. However, they fortunately don't appear to be on bad terms, as Katy celebrated the birth of Rih's first child in 2022. They were also photographed together at the Met Gala this year, but I'd love to see a proper reunion between these two!
6.We're briefly going back to the KarJenners, because this trend has reminded people that Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid used to be together ALL the time.
The two supermodels, who grew up in similar circles in Los Angeles, once ruled the fashion industry side by side. However, sometime in 2021, they stopped being seen together as much. People have speculated that the apparent distance between them may be related to Kendall's friend Simi Khadra dating Bella's ex, The Weeknd, although this has never been confirmed.
Whatever the case, it certainly doesn't seem like these two have any major beef. They were both bridesmaids at the same wedding in 2022, and Kendall is still very close with Bella's older sister, Gigi Hadid. Most recently, Kenny and Bella were seen together at a Rhode event in late 2024, but I'd love to see them share the runway once more.
7.Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj's careers could not look more different today, but as many people have pointed out, they were once as thick as thieves.
From "Bang Bang" to "Side to Side," and "The Light Is Coming" to "Get On Your Knees," Nicki and Ari worked on a ton of collaborations in the 2010s. Speaking to Zach Sang in 2018, Ari described Nicki as her "actual sister," saying that they've "been through so much together." A year later in 2019, they shut down speculation of a feud; however, between a pandemic, Ariana's Wicked rebrand, and Nicki's newfound love for Donald Trump, these two don't seem to have found their way back to each other.
After starring opposite one another in the High School Musical movies in the 2000s, Ashley and Vanessa became very close friends. Vanessa even served as a bridesmaid at Ashley's wedding to Christopher French in 2014.
The two were also bonded by the fact that Vanessa met her boyfriend of over eight years, Austin Butler, through Ashley. So, when Vanessa and Austin broke up in 2020, it was reported that the split seriously strained the girls' friendship. "Their friendship officially ended when Austin broke up with Vanessa," an insider told Page Six. "Ashley and Austin are best friends too, and Vanessa felt Ashley was much more supportive of Austin than she was of her." In 2024, Ashley addressed rumors of a feud, saying that she and Vanessa haven't seen each other "in a long time." Make of that what you will.
Timmy and Saoirse have shared the screen in two beloved Greta Gerwig films, Lady Bird (2017) and Little Women (2019), in which they've delivered some brilliant performances together. (Need I direct you to the "It's no use, Jo" proposal scene from Little Women?) And despite playing onscreen love interests in both of those movies, Timmy and Saoirse's offscreen dynamic could not be more platonic and playful, solidifying them as a beloved Hollywood duo.
Greta had wanted them both to make cameos in Barbie (2023), but it sadly didn't work out, so it's been a while since we've seen Timmy and Saoirse together in a movie. For that reason, people are feeling a little nostalgic about their bond, but rest assured, it seems they're still good pals. In late 2024, the two actors sat down for a sweet reunion interview for Vanity Fair, and around that same time, Saoirse interviewed Timmy during his Oscar campaign for A Complete Unknown. Greta, you know what you need to do! Bring our family back together!
So, those are the examples that I saw, but can you think of any we missed? Let me know in the comments.
