Bears' Ben Johnson reveals QB plan that might lead to Tyson Begent, Case Keenum change

2 weeks ago 67

Following a blowout loss in Week 5, the Chicago Bears are 3-2 and tied for last place in the NFC North with the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.

For this Bears' offense, there are plenty of question marks to go around. The running game is working, but there is a lot of doubt about the passing offense so far. But for Week 6, Caleb Williams might finally be back.

However, as Kevin Fishabin of The Athletic reports, Ben Johnson revealed there is a lot of uncertainty about the QB position for Chicago leading up to Week 6. They could return to Williams, or there might even be a change in store with Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum for this upcoming week's matchup.

Bears might be planning a QB change for Week 6

"Bears head coach Ben Johnson said no determination has been made as to which quarterback will take the first snaps Wednesday at practice," Fishbain reports. "Asked if Bagent is still the next man up if Caleb is out, Johnson said, 'I think we have three guys that can win games in this league.'"

Now, while that answer from Johnson might not seem like much, his non-committal to Bagent should indicate that there's, at the very least, a real chance that Bagent is not the Week 6 starter, and not because Williams is back.

Bagent might be the most likely Week 6 starter for the Atlanta Falcons matchup, but it appears there's a non-zero chance that Keenum is named the starter this week, with the struggles from Bagent against the Packers in Week 5.

Johnson not sticking with Bagent as the starter for this week isn't a surprise with the Williams return possible, but it's very interesting that even with the caveat of Williams being out, he is not committing to Bagent.

It's too early for must-wins during the NFL regular season in Week 6, but it's clear that the Bears should beat the Falcons this upcoming weekend, especially if they are without Michael Penix Jr.

For this upcoming matchup, any of the Bears' three quarterbacks could wind up being the starter. This is a situation to closely monitor this week, as the Bagent might be benched for Keenum, and not only Williams.
