Eagles get concerning DeVonta Smith injury update amid hamstring issue

The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Chicago Bears in Week 3, and the offense clearly took a big step backwards despite the running game looking much better in the first half.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, their Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams might not be a whole lot easier. The Eagles are dealing with a lot of injury issues, but one of the more concerning ones is the hamstring issue for DeVonta Smith.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Eagles got a concerning update on Smith from Thursday's practice. For the second day in a row, Smith was a non-participant, putting his status for Week 4 in question.

"DeVonta Smith sidelined again this week," Garafolo reports. "Played last week but now sounding like he's legitimately questionable for the Rams game."

With Smith questionable for Week 4 against a tough Rams team looking to avoid a 1-3 start to the season, the Eagles are in a bit of trouble this weekend.

Jalen Hurts is already going to be without Dallas Goedert for this Week 4 matchup, and now there's a real chance Smith is out this weekend as well.

If Smith is out, Hurts will need to not only continue to connect with Dontayvion Wicks, but first-round rookie WR Makai Lemon will need to be a lot more involved.

Darius Cooper and maybe even Zach Ertz will need to be more involved in the offense as well. Elijah Moore is also a name to monitor if Smith is out, as he could get some legitimate snaps in Week 4 in such a scenario.

But the offense will need to run through Saquon Barkley, Hurts, Lemon, and Wicks in Week 4 if Smith is out.

After a poor showing in Week 3, this is a worrying development for the Eagles. Smith's absence would put Philadelphia at great risk of dropping to 2-2 on the year.

Smith has not been ruled out just yet, but this is an injury situation that Eagles fans should be paying extra-close attention to during Friday's practice, as his participation during that practice could determine if he's active or not on Sunday.
