Falcons reveal good news on Michael Penix Jr. for Week 6 Bears matchup

2 weeks ago 13

The Atlanta Falcons are facing off against the Chicago Bears in Week 6 of the 2026 NFL season, as they'll try to get back to .500 following a Sunday Night Football loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

During the loss, the Falcons saw Michael Penix Jr. go down with a rib injury and not return. Tua Tagovailoa came into the game in overtime and threw an interception for a loss. So, it's imperative the Falcons get Penix back this week.

Fortunately, Kevin Stefanski told reporters, including ESPN's Marc Raimondi, that Penix should be the Week 6 starter for the Falcons, barring a setback at practice or something going wrong over the next few days.

Michael Penix Jr. revealed to be Week 6 starter if things go to plan for Falcons

"Stefanski: Penix will start Sunday as long as everything goes accordingly," Raimondi reported Wednesday.

This is some huge news for the Falcons, as getting Penix back for Week 6 is likely the difference between whether this team can actually contend with the Bears or not.

While Chicago's defense is decimated by injuries and other issues, this Falcons offense is worlds different with Penix on the field as opposed to when he's on the sideline.

Stefanski's update on Penix is some great news, as there's a good chance the left-handed quarterback will be suiting up this weekend against the 3-2 Bears.

So long as his week of practice goes well and he suffers no setbacks or hiccups with his rib injury, Penix will be good to go for Week 6 against the Bears.

It is too soon to tell for sure if he's going to play, so he'll be questionable until Stefanski reveals otherwise. But considering the concern after how Week 5 ended, this is some great news for the Falcons with their QB1.
