Kelsey Mitchell on Friday night made history, as she set the WNBA's single-season scoring record and enhanced her MVP campaign.
The funny thing about it? Mitchell had no idea she had broken A'ja Wilson's two-year-old mark for points scored in a season.
KELSEY MITCHELL MAKES WNBA HISTORY ‼️
Kelsey Mitchell has now surpassed A’ja Wilson for the highest-scoring single season in WNBA history!
She has 1,023 points and counting for the @IndianaFever, ahead of A’ja Wilson's 1,021 points in 2024.

With 6:57 to go in the third quarter of Friday's win over the Toronto Tempo, Mitchell drilled a 3-point basket to pass Wilson, whose 1,021 points in 2024 had been the WNBA's single-season mark. Mitchell ended the game with 33 points in 33 minutes as the Fever secured a 103-85 win at Coca-Cola Coliseum.

But when she spoke to the crew at Ion Sports following the final buzzer, Mitchell admitted that she had no clue how close she was to the scoring record.
"I think you just told me, to be honest," Mitchell admitted with a laugh.

It might yet get better for Mitchell, whose 25.2 points per game is a franchise record -- surpassing a mark she herself set in 2025.
With a big finish to the season, Mitchell theoretically could win the WNBA scoring title, though Wilson -- averaging 26.1 points per game -- represents stiff competition.
However, Mitchell just took down one of Wilson's records. Why not another?
It might well net her a bundle of MVP votes if she does.
