The new-look New York Giants have hopes of finally returning to winning football, and the team had a big step in that direction by defeating the Dallas Cowboys 28-20 on Sunday night.
Under new head coach John Harbaugh, the Giants win looked a lot like Harbaugh's victories when he was with the Baltimore Ravens. Jaxson Dart provided an effective dual-threat presence, while the running backs and tight ends were featured players as well.
In the process, the Giants were able to defeat one of their biggest villains: quarterback Dak Prescott. The Cowboys veteran has owned the Giants in his career, so a New York win over Prescott is a huge milestone for the new Giants regime.
Here's the Giants' updated record against Prescott and how they were able to beat the Cowboys on Sunday night.

Giants record vs. Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott has a 14-4 career record vs. the Giants. In fact, after losing his first two games vs. New York, Prescott rattled off 14-straight victories until Week 18 of the 2026 season, when the Giants beat the Cowboys in New York.
Entering this game, Prescott had averaged over 255 passing yards per game against the Giants while completing 66 percent of his passes. His 31 touchdowns and 4,346 passing yards against New York were his most against any team in the NFL, and he only extended that mark with another two touchdowns and 175 passing yards in this game.
However, the Giants have now won two-straight games against Prescott over the course of the last nine months.

How the Giants beat the Cowboys
Ball control
The Giants took down the Cowboys in Week 1 thanks to a strong run game and an efficient passing game that largely kept the Cowboys offense off the field. Dallas had just seven possessions, scoring three touchdowns while the other four resulted in either a turnover, punt or the end of the second half.
In the first half, New York's first two possessions combined to last over 16 minutes long as the Giants scored a touchdown to cap off each drive. Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo and Devin Singletary all ran the ball well, while Dart sprinkled in passes to Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely.
Overall, the Giants ran 68 plays to just 52 for the Cowboys, while having the ball for over 13 minutes more than Dallas.
Running game
The Giants running game led by Dart and Skattebo had 96 more rushing yards than Dallas, coming in at 165 yard to the Cowboys' 69. Dart and Skattebo combined for 133 of those yards, while Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy pitched in when necessary.
— NFL (@NFL) September 14, 2026Harbaugh, with Matt Nagy and Greg Roman leading the offense, wants to lean on a physical run game to wear down the defense. That played out perfectly in game one.
Jaxson Dart development
The most important season-long storyline for the Giants is the development of second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart, who outplayed Prescott at MetLife Stadium. Dart threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 54 rushing yards while producing a clean game of no turnovers.
For the Giants to make a positive leap, Dart needs to cement himself as a franchise-caliber quarterback. So far in 2026, he appears ready to take a step forward.
