"It's Demonic": The Internet Is Divided Over This Religious Mom's Decision To Prevent Her Child From Celebrating Halloween

1 day ago 6

This post is an op-ed and shares the writer's personal views.

I grew up in a religious household. Catholic, to be specific. Even though I was going to church each Sunday, I was lucky enough to have parents that let me express myself however I wanted, regardless of any nosy churchgoers.

I also grew up lovingggg Halloween (still do). So when I stumbled across this thread, I immediately locked in.

I was expecting to see a bunch of backlash, but I was shocked to discover some people in agreement:

Some even gave suggestions on what they could do instead:

If you were curious, Tribulation Trail is basically a haunted house for Bible fans. It's based on the Book of Revelation... You know, the super scary part of the Bible that's an apocalyptic nightmare...

That's when the juicy debate kicked in. Many people thought these suggestions were silly, as they're practically Halloween, just in a different font:

People also thought this "Halloween ban" was just ridiculous fearmongering:

As someone who's no longer religious myself, I found the comments from former Christians who grew up in an anti-Halloween household to be particularly interesting:

Even people who still hold their faith are stepping in to critique the mom:

In the end, it seems like most people agreed that this mom's decision is going to have the opposite effect that she intended:

It's not just this situation, though. This year, I've been seeing a wholeeeee lot of discourse online around Halloween and religion, way more than I ever have. Is it just me, or have y'all felt the conservative grip suffocating this holiday as well? What are your thoughts on it? Let us know in the comments; I'm super curious.

And if you made it this far, congrats! You get to witness the obligatory Halloween tax, where my mom, who was ACTUALLY cool, would make my Halloween costumes and dress up with me:
