The New York Knicks made a fascinating two-way roster move that will likely fly under the radar as the 2026-27 season looms closer.

According to an official news release, the Knicks have signed a 6-foot-6 NBA champion guard who's already familiar with the organization to assist Jalen Brunson and company.

“The New York Knicks announced today that the team has signed Kevin McCullar Jr. to a two-way contract,” the franchise stated last Saturday. “McCullar Jr., 25-year-old (6-6, 210 pounds), most recently appeared in 21 games with the Knicks last season. He recorded a career-high 14 points on 54.5% shooting, two rebounds, one assist, and two steals against Charlotte (Apr 12, 2026).”

“During the 2025-26 season, McCullar Jr. also played in 10 games (all starts) for the Westchester Knicks, the New York Knicks G-League affiliate, averaging 16.8 points on 46.7% shooting, 6.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks.”

McCullar is an intriguing third-year pro with undeniable potential. While the Kansas product has yet to prove he can be an adequate floor spacer in the NBA and G League, it would be nearly impossible to ignore his contributions as a methodical slasher, multi-faceted/pesky defender, and witty off-ball operator.

Essentially, McCullar could embrace a Josh Hart-like role with the Knicks when given opportunities to perform with the big dogs this season. At the end of the day, New York is clearly on board with continuing McCullar’s development, leaving it up to the former second-round pick to hold up his end of the bargain to help the partnership succeed long term.
