Remember the "Lake America" thing?

Press release by the U.S. Geological Survey renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America in official documents. Contact provided for questions

And remember how Google Maps started calling it "Lake America"?

Apple eventually did it too.

But you know who became the face of the map resistance??? MapQuest.

Map of Lake Ontario area with cities like Toronto and Buffalo marked. Caption says, "We're not changing it."

They posted on social media: "We are aware that Lake Ontario is being correctly labeled on our map."

MapQuest tweet humorously stating Lake Ontario is correctly labeled on their map, dated August 30, 2026, with 1.3M views

And they REALLY leaned into it:

"OUR MAPS ARE BIG AND BEAUTIFUL. PEOPLE COME UP TO US AND SAY WE GET THEM PLACES. AND WE DO!" Dated August 28, 2026

Well, apparently Trump wasn't done renaming things, because now he's coming for New Mexico.

He posted on Truth Social, "New Mexico should immediately change its name to New America. We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America! The name would add great value and prestige to the State!"

People obviously had some questions about that logic...

Comment jokingly suggests waiting before renaming New Mexico after learning about the name New York

"Wait until he finds out that the US is also not called York or Jersey," one person wrote.

Other people called out the elephant in the room.

"A President that is winning does not yell about renaming New Mexico days before a midterm election."

"A president that is sane does not yell about renaming New Mexico at any time."

But MapQuest had a simple two-word response:

Mapquest post captioned "Hey, boo," with a location tagged as New Mexico

And if it wasn't already clear where they stood, they doubled down in the comments:

User warns MapQuest not to "cave to this horse" with an emoji. MapQuest responds humorously, asking, "Have you met us?"

MapQuest, never change. Except, you know, going digital. That was probably a good move!!
