The 2026 season for the New York Mets has been a disastrous one. With one game to go, the Mets are 74-87, with one more game on the road against the Washington Nationals left.
Their slate of home games is over, and the final tally is pretty gross for the Mets. They have a 36-45 record at home this season, the fourth-worst mark in all of MLB. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the attendance numbers are not great.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale revealed how poor the Mets' attendance numbers are this year. Their attendance is way down, and most notably, their sellouts this year have been all but nonexistent.
MLB insider reveals poor attendance numbers for Mets from disaster 2026 season
"The Mets' attendance was down 14.8% from last season, averaging 33,901 fans a game, going from fifth in attendance to 12th, with their only sellout on opening day," Nightengale writes.
These numbers from Nightengale are quite bleak. It shouldn't be a surprise that the Mets' attendance numbers were down for such a poor season.
But this is still a significant drop-off in attendance this season. Going from No. 5 in attendance to No. 12 is quite the difference for a team that has as strong a fanbase as the Mets.
That 14.8% drop in attendance is massive, and for how poorly the season's gone, it's unfortunately a deserving difference for how poorly the year's gone.

Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, Francisco Alvarez, and many others have been hurt for much of the season. They traded Freddy Peralta, Luke Weaver, Clay Holmes, and plenty of other players at the trade deadline.
If it weren't for the encouraging years from rookies A.J. Ewing, Carson Benge, and Nolan McLean, this would've been arguably the worst season of any team in 2026.
All of the issues with the Mets have led to poor fan attendance this season, and the most surprising statistic is their lone sell-out of the year. At the start of the season, there was plenty of hope.
And yet, as Nightengale notes, the Mets only managed one sell-out all year. The 2026 season was a complete disaster for the Mets, and the fan attendance reflected that with these brutal attendance figures.
