Mike Vrabel sounds the alarm after Patriots' blowout loss: 'My concern level is very high'

The Patriots are reeling after a 35-6 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday, and coach Mike Vrabel isn't mincing words about his disappointment three games into the season.

Drake Maye's struggles intensified during the loss, as he threw two interceptions and lost one fumble while the Patriots failed to find the end zone. The defense wasn't much better, with Trevor Lawrence throwing three touchdown passes.

While it's only September, New England could fall three games behind the Bills with a loss in Week 4. That appears to be enough to generate a sense of urgency from Vrabel, whose Patriots lost only three regular season games last year.

Here's a look at what Vrabel had to say after the loss.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Vrabel said he is very concerned about the Patriots.

"My concern level is very high for this football team," Vrabel said, adding, "Certainly, we have to fix a lot of things."

The second-year coach discussed Maye's struggles, urging patience with a young quarterback, but he pinned much of the blame on himself.

"It starts with me," Vrabel said. "I'll have them better prepared."

Maye, meanwhile, said the Patriots' "unacceptable" offensive performance falls on himself.

"Can't get out of my own way, personally," Maye said. "I have to look myself in the mirror."

The Patriots don't have much time to start turning the ship around. New England travels to Buffalo to face the undefeated Bills in Week 4, and while it might be too early to start getting into the math of the playoff race, a three-game deficit behind a team with Josh Allen at quarterback would be tough to overcome.

The road back to competitive football will start with finding consistency during practice, Vrabel said Sunday, so a critical week of work is ahead for the Patriots.
