NBA insider delivers Heat bad news on potential Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving trade despite recent rumors

The Miami Heat have struggled through their first couple of games, which is surprising considering the amount of talent they have put together. However, building chemistry takes time, and that process has slowed the team from getting off to a strong start.

Former ESPN writer Bill Simmons doesn't believe the pairing of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo has looked good so far.

“The Giannis and Bam fit has looked horrible — Bam looks like he has no idea what to do on offense, they're playing too fast for what they're talent is, they bet on Klay who looks washed…Giannis isn't the easiest guy to play with…the Jovic extension from last year is one of the dumbest extensions given out in the last 5 years — it's been a disaster, he's been unplayable…10 years ago you could've gotten away with Giannis and Bam as your two guys…I wouldn't bet against them figuring this out, this bad as it can get," Simmons said.

On Wednesday, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Heat are monitoring Kyrie Irving's trade status.

“They are going to be monitoring Kyrie Irving. The question is, if you're Miami, what can you give for Kyrie Irving? — I believe they have 1 first round pick they can trade." Charania said.

While adding Irving would be a major move for Miami, the Heat simply don't have much to offer compared to other teams. NBA insider Brett Siegel believes they used most of their available assets to acquire Antetokounmpo.

“You can monitor [Kyrie] all you want. This team gave up their draft capital for Giannis Antetokounmpo, they have no young talent… If the Mavs make Kyrie available, there’s gonna be a ton of teams that offer them a legitimate package… [The Heat] just can not offer anything,” Siegel said.

That is the harsh reality for the Heat as they look to add a point guard who can help space the floor. The Dallas Mavericks would likely demand much more for Irving than Miami can offer.

The Heat know Davion Mitchell is continuing to develop at the point guard position, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for an established star at the position. As things stand, however, making a deal happen looks highly unlikely.
