Dylan and Cole Sprouse are probably one of the most famous sets of twins in pop culture at the moment, with the two literally newborns when they made their acting debut in Grace Under Fire in 1993 — a role that they shared for five years.

Then, at age 5, they starred alongside Adam Sandler in their first major theatrical role in the hit comedy Big Daddy. Meanwhile, Cole had a recurring role as Ross’s son, Ben, on the sitcom Friends, sharing scenes with the show’s leading stars, including Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry.

By the time they were 12, in 2005, they’d landed their own Disney TV show, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and by that point they’d already been acting for, well, 12 years.

As they got older, both Dylan and Cole pursued further education, but remained in the spotlight. And on Tuesday, Dylan made some pretty jaw-dropping claims on his Wildmen podcast, where he discussed learning about his heritage from the genealogy program Ancestry.

“I’ve found a lot of family members, weirdly, who I never met, because my dad’s side of the family is pretty fractured. I started to talk to them, compare and contrast,” Dylan began. The 34-year-old star then explained that he discovered both his mom's and his dad’s sides of the family were in California during the Gold Rush, and by the 1800s, the family had united through marriage.

“And then they diverged, and then they married again [through] my mom and my dad,” Dylan noted, adding that he began to “get suspicious” about his family tree when he discovered that his dad had uncles who were identical twins.

“I’d only ever thought that identical twins or twins in general came from my mom’s side of the family,” he said. “We had seven sets of twins in four generations. Which is crazy.”

“And the reason we have a lot of twins is because it’s the same family!” Dylan exclaimed before concluding: “I mean, long story short, Cole and I are children of incest.”

As I’m sure you can imagine, this quote immediately led to a bunch of eyebrow-raising headlines, and poor Cole was seemingly caught off-guard when he found himself wrapped up in incest news stories, having not had any actual involvement with the podcast where his brother gave the quotes.

In fact, Dylan literally said that he called Cole to tell him about the “fucking crazy” news when he first got his Ancestry results, but Cole had hung up on him because he was so disinterested in the whole thing.

Needless to say, waking up to headlines such as: “Dylan Sprouse Says He & Brother Cole Sprouse Are ‘Children Of Incest’” was quite the shock for Cole, who shared a screenshot of it to his Instagram story alongside the caption: “No media training on earth can prep you to read this clickbait headline at 10am.”

Unrelated, but also pretty funny, Cole immediately followed up with a selfie where he revealed that people were confusing him with his twin following Dylan’s wife, Barbara Palvin’s, appearance in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Sunday. He wrote: “It’s that time of year again where I get tagged in Victoria secret content cause people still don’t know who married Barbara.”

And followers got a kick out of both of these posts, with an incredibly viral tweet that has already been liked more than 225,000 times reading: “HES SO FUNNY WHAT THE HELL😭😭😭😭😭” alongside screenshots of the stories. Somebody else wrote: “imagine waking up to being tagged in victoria’s secret edits and incest headlines simultaneously 😭”

Another pointed out: “this so funny because he already was irritated and hung up on Dylan when he sent the family tree to him 💀💀”

Dylan also had a pretty funny response to the headline, sharing it to his own Instagram story and admitting: “Ngl they cooked with this headline,” he then joked: “Printing this out and hanging it over the communal family bed.”
