Phillies' Alec Bohm joins David Ortiz from 2004 ALCS with clutch MLB HR history

The Philadelphia Phillies hit two clutch home runs during Game 2 of the NL Wild Card, with Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper going back-to-back to tie the game up late.

But with the game in extra innings, the Phillies got an incredibly clutch solo homer to right field from Alec Bohm to put the Phillies up 4-3. That extra-inning, go-ahead HR from Bohm made some incredible MLB history.

According to Jayson Stark of The Athletic, Bohm's homer has made him the third player ever to hit a go-ahead home run in extra innings in an elimination game during the postseason, joining David Ortiz and Carlton Fisk.

Alec Bohm joins David Ortiz, Carlton Fisk with all-time clutch HR

"Tie-breaking extra-inning HR by cleanup hitters in postseason elimination game: Carlton Fisk, 1975, WS Game 6; David Ortiz, 2004, ALCS Game 4; Alec Bohm, 2026, WSC Game 2," Stark shared.

There is no other player in MLB history other than these three hitters to have a go-ahead home run in extra innings when their team was facing elimination.

This incredibly clutch homer kept the Phillies' season alive, and it has now made Bohm a part of some of the most iconic home runs in MLB postseason history.

Although it doesn't feel like it at all right now, this homer from Bohm is in some very rare air, with Fisk's '75 homer and Ortiz's '04 homer two of the most legendary in MLB history.

If the Phillies can go on a run to win the 2026 World Series, this Bohm home run will be the moment that sparked this Phillies team to greatness.

But even if the Phillies don't win it all, Bohm's clutch home run is still one of the craziest of all time. On the brink of elimination, Bohm hit a clutch homer in extra innings to save the season. It doesn't get a whole lot better than that.
