Rams get bad news as Myles Garrett's IR stint is likely 'longer' than anticipated

The Los Angeles Rams are going to be without Myles Garrett for some time this season, as the star edge rusher landed on injured reserve following Week 1's loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Garrett's placement on IR means he'll miss at least four games, beginning with Week 2. He's eligible to return after Week 5, but for the Rams, the latest update isn't a good one.

According to Ian Rapoport for ESPN, Garrett's injury absence is likely to be "longer" than anticipated, with his recovery lasting not four weeks, but roughly six weeks.

Rams' Myles Garrett likely to miss more time than anticipated on IR

"Los Angeles Rams star Myles Garrett figures to be on the sideline a little longer than anticipated," Rapoport reports. "Garrett, the subject of one of the NFL's biggest blockbuster trades in recent memory, was given a timeline of roughly six weeks for his recovery from knee surgery, sources told NFL Network."

Garrett didn't make a big impact in Week 1 in Australia, and was clearly hampered by his knee injury. He hit the injured list a few days after the loss, and now will be out through Week 5 at the minimum.

However, this report from Rapoport makes it clear that Garrett is going to be out longer than Week 5. A six-week injury recovery for Garrett would mean he's going to come back not after Week 5, but after Week 7.

The Rams face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8, and that might wind up being Garrett's date to return. If things go well, he could come back in Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

But it's clear that the four-week minimum, meaning a Week 6 return, is not looking likely at the moment. The Rams looked much better in Week 2 against the New York Giants, especially with Aaron Darnold back in the fold.

Darnold is going to have to wait a while longer before getting the chance to play alongside Garrett, one of the main reasons he decided to come out of retirement.

Unfortunately for the Rams and Garrett, the superstar edge rusher's injury recovery is going to take longer than anticipated. A Week 8 return is looking like the most likely return date, which is a ways away, as Garrett's likely to miss all of October now.
