The Cincinnati Reds had a disappointing season and will finish at the bottom of the NL Central standings.
Star shortstop Elly De La Cruz had a standout year, but most of the roster failed to meet expectations.
Injuries also played a key part in the Reds' lack of success.
First baseman and outfielder Spencer Steer was limited to 98 games due to a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist.
According to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon, Steer will undergo surgery on his wrist next week.
“He took some pretty aggressive swings in Cincinnati Saturday, and it kind of grabbed at him a little bit," manager Terry Francona told Sheldon. "So rather than put it off, I think he was ready.”
In an attempt to return to the field, Steer began rehabbing the injury. However, it bothered him enough that the Reds decided to shut him down for the year.

Steer played six positions this season while hitting .238 with 16 home runs and a 104 OPS+.
He was originally diagnosed with a right wrist sprain, per Sheldon. Steer initially felt the injury during an at-bat against the St. Louis Cardinals on July 26.
Steer is expected to be healthy for the start of spring training.
