It's early in the season, but quarterbacks are already out with injuries. One was Sam Darnold of the Seattle Seahawks, who went down in Week 1 with a hip injury.
Darnold wasn't able to participate in the team's game in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, but the Seahawks won it anyway, 31-7. So, what about Week 3?
Darnold spoke with reporters on Thursday about his chances of returning, and he hinted that he'd like to be back.
Sam Darnold is hoping to return in Week 3
Speaking with reporters, he said that he's "striving" to be back, but it's not a given yet.
"I'm really striving for that. I'm just taking it day by day, don't want to jinx anything," Darnold told the media, as shared by the team's official Facebook account.
Darnold also said he had a good practice this week, and that it's made him believe he'll be medically cleared for the next game.
"Feeling good," he said. "Taking it day by day, just balancing the reps and doing what I need to be ready."
With Darnold out, backup quarterback Drew Lock has been playing for him, and Darnold gave him props for the good job he's done. The Seahawks are 2-0 for the season.
"It was great to see Drew have success and our team have success, but when I was on the sideline I missed playing a ton," Darnold said. "So it's good to get back on the practice field this week and get out there."
Darnold still needs to be medically cleared to return to the field on Sunday. That's what Darnold and the Seahawks are waiting on.
