Unfortunately, many Hollywood actors have experienced uncomfortable and humiliating casting auditions throughout their careers, particularly early on. Anna Kendrick, for example, once had a male casting director stare at her chest and remark about her breasts, “I’m sure they’re fine.”
Jennifer Lawrence was once made to participate in a “nude line-up” of women — an experience she understandably described as completely “degrading.”
“We are stood side-by-side with only tape on covering our privates. After that degrading and humiliating line-up, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet,” she recalled at Elle's Women in Hollywood event in 2017.
Now, Sandra Bullock has recalled some of her past nightmare audition experiences during a recent conversation with fellow actor Jennifer Aniston for Interview magazine.
The subject came up after Jen asked Sandra, “Was there a moment when you made a deliberate choice about the kind of career you wanted, or did it just evolve?” In response, Sandra recalled, “I was in New York, I was a waitress, I was auditioning for every pervert that existed, asking me to drop my pants. I was like, ‘Nope, not the role for me.’”
“I was working my way up,” she continued. “Every working actor thinks you will never work again so you just take what you can get and make the most of it.”
Sandra went on to recall being picky about her acting roles when she’d done her fair share of rom-coms.
“The only time I was intentional about my career was when I said, ‘I need to stop right now with the rom-coms,’ because I was getting so much shit for them. And I took a role in this film called Crash,” she said, referring to the 2004 crime thriller.
