Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray's regular-season debut with the team didn't go smoothly. The player, unfortunately, suffered a concussion during the team's game against the Green Bay Packers.
Murray was injured in the first quarter when he was hit by a Packers defender. He exited the game and went into concussion protocol, and then, the team announced that he had indeed suffered a concussion and would be out for the rest of the game.
On Monday, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell fielded questions about the injury, and while he didn't give too many specifics, he had a decent update and one that should make those in Minnesota sleep better.
Kyler Murray is in concussion protocol
On Monday, O'Connell reiterated to reporters that Murray is in the concussion protocol. The positive news is that he stated that the player came into the building feeling "pretty good" on Monday, according to Fox 9.
O'Connell also said the Vikings would take his situation "a day at a time" and work with the medical staff as Murray receives treatment.
With Murray out, Carson Wentz stepped in for the team, and he did well, leading the Vikings to a comeback victory over the Packers. If Murray doesn't clear the concussion protocol in time for Week 2, Wentz will go up against the Chicago Bears.
The NFL takes concussions seriously, and there are several steps that have to be taken to clear a player to get back on the field. So, don't be surprised if you see Wentz on the bench for the Bears game but able to come back the following week. The Bears won their game against the Panthers with a massive 59-37 score, so they look like a fierce competition for Minnesota this season.
