The Seattle Seahawks decided to let Kenneth Walker leave in free agency and the Kansas City Chiefs are already reaping the benefits.
The Chiefs inked Walker to a three-year, $43 million deal because of their desperate need to improve the rushing attack, which was among the NFL's worst in 2025.
Through just two-plus quarters of his debut, Walker has already ripped off 149 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and has been exactly the kind of game-changing back Kansas City needed.
Seeing how great Walker has been in his debut, it's hard to understand why the Seahawks would let him go in free agency, but that's exactly what they did.
Why did Seahawks let Kenneth Walker go?
It's pretty simple: the Seahawks just didn't want to pay Walker.
Seattle spent a lot of money keeping its core players together and just didn't have enough laying around to pay their star running back.
Walker had a great season in 2025 that culminated with a Super Bowl MVP, which drove his price way up and put him out of the range for Seattle to be able to afford him.
It has become fairly common for teams to be reluctant to pay big money to running backs, although that has started to shift in recent years, but more so with elite backs.
The Chiefs are pretty happy that's the decision Seattle made.
